Arne Hovmand-Olsen
Born in Kirkeby Sogn, Denmark in 1919 to a farming family, Arne Hovmand-Olsen showed an early talent for drawing and design. In 1938 he became an apprentice cabinetmaker and in 1941 he enrolled at the technical school in Århus. He opened his own design studio in 1944, where he was able to express himself through designs that combined traditional craftsmanship with a modern vision that became a hallmark of Danish 1950s style.
